This ain’t the first time the Derby’s been dogged by controversy. But the stakes are higher this time – seven horses never made it to the start line this year. PETA, the animal rights group, threw a fit. Can you blame them, though? 🤷♀️🤷♂️
So who are the knights in shining armor riding in to save the day? Step up, Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA). They’re pulling in Dennis Moore, who knows his stuff when it comes to training facilities and surfaces, and Jennifer Durenberger, who’s got her veterinary expertise on lock.
HISA’s coming to the party after PETA made some pretty serious accusations. PETA even demanded that Churchill Downs be closed before the race. A tad dramatic, perhaps? Or a wake-up call that can’t be ignored? 🧐
