It was your usual Wednesday evening until bullets started flying at an unsuspecting burger joint near 81st Street and Avalon Boulevard. When the dust settled, a young mom and her baby were left nursing bullet wounds. Yes, you read that right, a baby. She’s one year old, to be exact. What the actual heck, right?
According to LAPD, around 5:30 p.m. on June 5, the victims were parked at a hamburger stand with their young kiddos in the back seat. Suddenly, a gray Kia sedan pulled up, guns blazing, unloading several shots into the car before peeling off. Caught in the crossfire were a 20-year-old woman, who got hit in the leg, and her 1-year-old daughter, whose foot was injured. Thankfully, both injuries were nonfatal. The 8-month-old baby and another woman in the car came out unscathed. And all this before you could even say, “I’ll have fries with that.” 😱🍔🍟
Was this a random act of violence or a sinister plot? The fuzz believe this incident was likely gang-related, with the victims mistakenly identified as rival gang members. Now, we all know mistaken identities are hilarious in rom-coms but in real life? They’re not so funny. In fact, they can lead to heartbreaking scenes, like this one.
Detectives were able to nab the alleged perps, thanks to surveillance footage and a subsequent search warrant. The suspects turned out to be three male teenagers, two 16-year-olds, and a 17-year-old. Their names have been kept under wraps because, well, they’re underage.
