π’π₯ Oopsie Daisy! Ruby Princess Makes a “Boat Bump” with San Francisco Pier
TL:DR; A Princess Cruises ship, the Ruby Princess, takes a surprising spin and ends up making a ‘bump and grind’ with Pier 27 in San Francisco. ππ No injuries, but some raised eyebrows and an in-depth investigation by the U.S Coast Guard. The shipβs left rear side and the dock, both felt the love tap. Meanwhile, passengers are waiting, ready for some Alaskan adventure.βοΈ
In the heart of the beautiful city of San Francisco, the iconic Ruby Princess cruise ship π’ of Princess Cruises had a bit of a ‘whoopsie-daisy’ moment. Early Thursday morning, the 113,561-ton ship, like a rebellious teenager, decided to go in for an unexpected smooch with Pier 27. But the important question here, folks, is: Can ships get grounded? π€
Passengers and crew had their morning coffee with a side of unexpected adrenaline. “We were spinning pretty quick, to be that close to the dock,β reported passenger Paul Zasso, who was at mid-ship, portside. Like a slow-mo action sequence, Zasso looked out of the window to see the ship and dock about to get up close and personal. π’π₯ποΈ
Fear not though, party people! Princess Cruises was quick to assure that there were no injuries, and at no time were guests or crew in danger.π¨ββοΈπ©Ή No need to fear, the captain is here (somewhere)! “The ship is safely alongside and disembarkation is complete,” they said.
On the flip side, the U.S Coast Guard took out their detective hats and magnifying glasses to get to the bottom of this boat bump. π΅οΈββοΈπ Petty Officer Hunter Schnabel confirmed to us that an investigation into the crash is currently underway.
This lovely vessel, that could accommodate 3,080 guests and 1,200 crew, took a bit of a dent on its left rear side. Ouch! π¬ Even the dock didn’t escape unscathed. We wonder if the Ruby Princess and the dock are just trying to be ‘pier’ pressure pals? π€·
Princess Cruises aren’t letting this unexpected rendezvous dampen their spirits though. As investigators were assessing the damage, they were planning to board passengers for another roundtrip journey to the chilly terrains of Alaska. βοΈπ³οΈ
Among the waiting passengers, Jim Simpson, not bothered by the ship’s spontaneous twirl, remarked, “I donβt swim that good. I just think they patch it up.β Ah, the optimism! π
But this raises some questions we all should think about. How confident would you be to hop on a cruise ship after it decided to do a little pier pirouette? π€
Is this just a one-time event, or are we going to see more incidents like this in the future? π What measures should be taken to ensure the safety of the passengers and the crew? And lastly, would a boat bump stop you from going on your dream Alaskan cruise? π³οΈβοΈποΈ Let’s discuss! π¬
